Life Transitions/Adjustment

Adjusting to new situations can be difficult and sometimes lead you to feeling stuck or unproductive.  Having an outside perspective, or learning some new ways of coping when your old strategies are no longer working, will help you get unstuck and move through the difficulty life has thrown you.

Stress Management

Life can be stressful and sometimes down right overwhelming!  I specialize in helping you learn ways to navigate your stressors, let go of things that are no longer serving you, set boundaries, be more in the moment, and find enjoyment out of life.  Stress will come and go in life, why not find better ways to handle it and not feel so consumed by it?

Relationship Concerns

Relationships are hard work.  Society, TV/movies, and social media can often lead us to believing otherwise.  However, just like any other thing in life, they need to be nurtured and attended to.  If you find yourself struggling with romantic, familial, and/or friendships in your life, therapy might be a great place to explore and address those concerns, as well as find out what you need to move forward in a way that fits you best.

Anxiety and Depression

Millions of people struggle with symptoms of anxiety and depression every day.  I can help you learn ways to navigate your symptoms and figure out how to live the life you want to despite your challenges.

Other Concerns

While I've worked extensively with individuals on the issues listed above, I'm trained as a generalist and have worked with individuals on a variety of additional concerns. Issues related to grief and loss, multicultural concerns, LGBTQ+ issues, women's issues, attention concerns, identity concerns, sexual concerns, and family concerns are all things I regularly address and discuss with my clients. If you have a question about if I can help you address a concern you are struggling with, whether or not we might be a good fit, or more generally about psychology, psychological services, or therapy, please feel free to message me through the contact form or reach out to schedule a phone consultation.

My Approach

I believe the therapeutic relationship is important in the process of change.  My goal is to create a warm, empathic, collaborative space where individuals can feel able to be their genuine self. Just like any other relationship in life, finding the right therapist is a matter of finding the right fit for you. Technically speaking, I work from an integrative perspective, drawing from Interpersonal, Cognitive-Behavioral, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) frameworks. What does that mean? It means I think our experiences and relationships in life shape who we are and how we got here. It means I recognize that we can fall into certain patterns and "traps" in the way we think and approach the world that can end up being unhelpful and get in the way of what we want out of life. It means that I believe there are some things we will have to endure throughout our lifetime, but that we can still move toward things/values that are important to us. It also means that I have theory and research to inform me, but know that you are more of an expert on you than I will ever be, and that it is my job to help provide you with a useful perspective and insight into why you function the way you do.

I tell my clients frequently that I, unfortunately, do not have a magic wand or secret potion to make all your life problems go away. However, my goal is to help you learn the skills to navigate life stressors in more helpful and productive ways. We all have a set of tools we have learned throughout our lives to help us navigate the world.  Those tools likely served us well to get through different things in our lives. Unfortunately, we sometimes come across situations where our set of tools are no longer enough, are not serving us in the same way they used to, or are potentially even harming us. I want to help you add to your metaphorical coping toolbox and feel more prepared for whatever life throws at you again in the future. I'm not going to keep you from getting stuck from time to time in your life, but I hope to help you get stuck less often and feel able to get unstuck faster and more effectively moving forward.

Therapy is hard work, but with the right support and fit, it can help you function better in your life.

Fees and Payment

I currently accept Excellus Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance plans. However, I'm considered an out-of-network provider with other insurance companies. If you'd like to use your out-of-network benefits, I'd be happy to provide you with all the necessary information. Please be sure to call the number on the back of your insurance card to check your benefits and see whether I'm an in-network or out-of-network provider for you plan. Double check if you'll have a co-pay, co-insurance, or a deductible that needs to be met for mental health or psychology services. Also, check that your plan covers telehealth services. If you have any questions about what to ask, or if they require any specific information to help you explore this further, please let me know!
